of the Christian tradition,1 and is stated in its fullest form in the theological doctrine of God's impeccability.2, God is not only free from sin, He is incapable of moral deviation. God not only does not sin, He cannot sin. This is generally held to be part of what is communicated in the claim that God is perfectly good. On the surface, at least, this doctrine appears to be in conflict with the traditional Christian doctrine of divine omni? potence. An omnipotent being is one that can do all things possible. But, surely, it is possible to sin. Men do this sort ofthing all the time. It would thus appear that if God is perfectly good (and thus impeccable) He cannot sin; and if God is omni? potent (and thus can do all things possible), He
